Ideally 3 months prior to conception is considered as pre-conceptional period. But it’s always better to take care of your overall health as a partner as early as possible.
Let’s understand few steps that we should follow during this phase to improve our pre-conceptional health.
1.MEDICAL CHECK-UP: First step to introduce is to schedule an appointment with your Doctor, Gynecologist or Health care provider, so that you are thorough with all your blood work and basic health checkups to rule out any deficiencies, diseases, or disorders.
Make sure you share all your past and family medical history to rule out genetical disorders running in families. Go for genetic testing if required or if suggested. Lastly keep yourself updated with all the required vaccinations.
2.DIETARY CONSULTATION: Consult Nutrition expert for pre-conception who can help you to manage or change your regular diet focused on required nutrients during this phase. Start eating balanced diet.
Add good sources of protein, good fats, fruits, vegetables, whole grains like millets etc .
Avoid packaged foods, processed foods, reduce alcohol, stop smoking and caffeine rich foods.
Focus on supplements like prenatal vitamins, folic acid, vit -d, Iron etc after consulting.
